Best Time To Visit South Africa
South Africa is a year-round destination, but the best time to visit depends on what you want to see and do. For game viewing, the drier winter months (about May to October) are the best time. The South African winter from June to August brings lower prices (except for safaris) and smaller crowds.
The Rainy Season
The rainy season in South Africa is from November to March, with the heaviest rains usually falling in February. This is also the hottest time of year, with temperatures averaging 29°C (84°F) on the coast and 22°C (72°F) inland.
Although rainfall during this time can disrupt travel plans, it’s also the best time to see the country’s lush, green landscapes. And, if you don’t mind getting wet, you’ll find lower prices and fewer crowds.
What to Pack
No matter what time of year you visit South Africa, pack sunscreen, a hat, and comfortable walking shoes. In the winter months, you’ll also need a light jacket or sweater for the evenings.
If you’re planning to spend time on the beach, pack your swimsuit, and if you’re going on a safari, remember to bring binoculars.
Is South Africa Safe For Travel?

When driving, beware of animals on the road, especially at night. And, if you’re planning to hike in remote areas, let someone know where you
The tourists areas of South Africa are, for the most part, safe. There are some areas that you should avoid and take caution if you find yourself in. If you use common sense, you will have a great time in South Africa.
