Day 1 Your Masai Mara Safari

On your arrival in Nairobi, you are transferred to Wilson Airport for a flight to the airstrip of the exclusive Kichwa Tembo Masai Mara Tented Camp. Enjoy lunch at camp before meeting your guide for high tea and setting out on a late afternoon game drive on the rolling hills and vast plains of the Masai Mara. The Masai Mara National Reserve is one of the most spectacular and most popular game reserves in Kenya. The concentration of game in the Mara during the mass migration is incredible, and this is one of the areas where you are likely to see all of the Big 5: buffalo, elephant, rhino, lion and leopard.

Day 2-3 Float above the Mara

Enjoy twice-daily game drives in open 4x4 safari vehicles, night drives on the camp's wilderness concession, guided nature walks with a Maasai naturalist, and sundowners at a secret location that boasts spectacular views across the Mara. One morning during your stay, wake early and embark on an hour-long balloon safari over the vast plains of the Masai Mara. The dawn scenery from the balloon is breathtaking as you float above the diverse habitats of the reserve, which include the mighty Mara River, swamps and forests. On landing, you enjoy a delicious champagne breakfast on the plains as the sun rises in the sky for another beautiful day in Africa.

Day 4 Leave the Mara

After a wholesome breakfast, bid farewell to the Mara as you drive to Kichwa Airstrip for a scheduled flight to Nairobi's Wilson Airport. On your arrival, transfer to the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport for your onward flight home, the memories, sights and sounds of the past few days still fresh in your mind.

Entry Requirements for Kenya

Before traveling, ensure:

Flights to Kenya – Nairobi & Mombasa Gateways

Most international travelers arrive in Kenya via Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (NBO), the main hub for safari departures.

However, depending on your itinerary, you may also fly into:

  • Moi International Airport (MBA) – ideal for beach extensions (Diani, Nyali, Watamu)

We will always advise the best arrival airport based on your itinerary.

Estimated Flight Costs (Guideline Only)

Flight prices vary depending on season and availability:

Europe → Nairobi: $600 – $1,200
USA → Nairobi: $800 – $1,700
Middle East → Nairobi: $400 – $900

We recommend booking early for the best fares, especially during peak safari seasons.

Recommended Flight Strategy

We actively guide flight selection based on your itinerary:

  • Arrive Nairobi early morning → connect directly to safari
  • Arrive Mombasa midday → transfer to beach hotel
  • Avoid tight connections (<3 hrs) when routing via Nairobi
  • Consider arriving 1 night before your safari for peace of mind
  • Choose flights that arrive early morning for the best experience
  • Use soft luggage for easier handling on safari flights

Expert Planning Insight

Even when flying to Mombasa:

Frequently asked questions

What makes this safari “On Wings” different from a road safari?

This is a fly-in safari, meaning you’ll take a short domestic flight from Wilson Airport directly to the Masai Mara National Reserve.
Instead of spending 5–6 hours on the road, you’ll arrive in about 45–60 minutes—giving you more time for game drives, relaxation, and enjoying your lodge.

Is 4 days enough for Maasai Mara?

Yes—4 days is one of the best-balanced options for experiencing the Maasai Mara National Reserve without feeling rushed.

You’ll typically enjoy:

3 full game drives
A good chance of seeing the Big Five
Enough time to explore different areas of the reserve

It’s ideal if you want a complete safari experience in a short time.

That said, if you want a more relaxed pace, more wildlife encounters, or to combine multiple parks, a 5–7 day safari would be better.

In short:
4 days is perfect for first-time safari travelers or those with limited time.

Are flights included in the package?

Yes, your return domestic flights are included. We use reputable local airlines such as Safarilink Aviation and AirKenya Express, known for their safety, reliability, and scenic low-altitude flights over Kenya’s landscapes.

What kind of accommodation can I expect?

You’ll stay in carefully selected safari lodges or luxury tented camps within or near the Mara.
Options range from comfortable mid-range camps to high-end luxury properties, all offering:

En-suite bathrooms

Stunning views of the savannah
Close proximity to wildlife

We match your accommodation to your budget and travel style.

How many game drives are included?

Typically, you’ll enjoy:

Afternoon game drive on arrival
Full-day or two half-day game drives
Morning game drive before departure

Your schedule is flexible and can be tailored to meet your needs and requirements.

Will I see the Big Five?

While wildlife sightings can never be guaranteed (this is the wild, after all), the Masai Mara National Reserve is one of the best places in Africa to spot the Big Five:

Lion
Elephant
Leopard
Buffalo
Rhino

Your chances are very high, especially with our experienced guides.

What animals will I realistically see?

The Maasai Mara National Reserve is one of the best places in Africa for wildlife viewing, but it’s important to set realistic expectations.

On a typical 4-day safari, you are very likely to see:

Lions (very common)
Elephants
Buffalo
Giraffes
Zebras
Wildebeest
Antelope species (like impala and gazelle)

You also have a good chance of seeing:

Cheetahs
Hyenas
Hippos and crocodiles

Leopards are more elusive but still possible.

During the Great Migration (July–October), sightings of massive wildebeest herds are almost guaranteed.

Important:
Wildlife is not staged—every sighting is natural, which makes each safari unique and exciting.

When is the best time to visit?

The Mara is a year-round destination, but:

July to October: Best for the Great Migration
December to March: Excellent for predators and fewer crowds
April to May: Green season (lush landscapes, fewer tourists, better rates)
