Family Safaris
Give your family Africa — elephants, lions, Kilimanjaro and campfire stories they will tell for the rest of their lives.
Why Kenya for families
Kenya is the world's most family-friendly safari destination — short flight distances between parks, excellent roads, superb child-friendly lodges and guides who genuinely love working with children. Children under 5 travel almost free. Children 5–11 pay child rates at most parks.
The combination of Amboseli elephants and Masai Mara lions is achievable in 5 nights — short enough for young children to manage without exhaustion. Kenya's parks are compact, well-served and designed for visitors who want the full experience without unnecessarily long drives.
“We bring our own children on safari in Kenya. The look on a child’s face when they see their first elephant at close range — that is why we do this work.” — Gerald Omondi, Founder, Safari Travel Plus
Age guide
Everything is astonishing. Amboseli for elephants you can almost touch. Short drives (2 hrs max). Single-storey lodges with shallow pools. No park fees under 2.
Old enough to understand what they're seeing, young enough to be completely captivated. Full game drives, Big Five possible, child meals and activity programmes at most lodges.
Teenagers often become the most passionate safari-goers. Walking safaris, night drives, conservation activities, photography guides. The Masai Mara in August for the migration is life-changing.
You will rediscover wonder through your children's eyes. We recommend adults bring binoculars and let the children use the vehicle's roof hatch — the view from there is extraordinary.
