Serengeti Safari
Serengeti Safaris
Serengeti safaris vary depending on your accommodation and African safari requirements. We have a wide range of Serengeti safaris with cost catering to your and needs and preferences. From luxury to mid range Serengeti safaris with prices.
A Serengeti Safari is best known for the phenomenal migration that plays out every year. Over two million wildebeest, zebra and Thompson gazelle carve across the plains in a circular trek; their steady instinctive movements tied to the land and grass and rain.
Of course, where large groups of game thrive so do predators; lions, cheetahs, hyenas and leopards are common sightings on our Serengeti holiday safaris.
Serengeti Safari Holidays
Our Serengeti Safari holidays and vacation packages are hard to beat. Home not only to the world’s greatest concentration of wildlife but also its most spectacular natural migration, the Serengeti National Park is Tanzania’s flagship conservation area and must-do centrepiece of the Northern Safari Circuit.
Known as ‘The Land that Moves on Forever’, the Serengeti’s unmistakable African setting will resonate with travellers on their first trip to Africa as well as old safari hands. Its vast rolling grasslands give a soul-stirring feeling of space and support hundreds of thousands of wildebeest and zebra as well as buffalo, elephant, giraffe and many gazelle and antelope species; red-robed Maasai tribesmen watch their grazing cattle warily – no prizes for guessing that the Serengeti is a big cat – and a photographer’s – paradise.
Best Time To Visit Serengeti
The short October/November and March/April rainy seasons notwithstanding, the Serengeti’s temperate and mostly dry climate plus abundant resident wildlife makes for a great game viewing experience all year round – the question of exactly when to go to the Serengeti really revolves around whether you want to see the wildebeest migration. If so, then the best time to visit the Serengeti is between October and July before the wildebeest return to Kenya’s Masai Mara around August. Note however that the migration is a fluid affair: not only is its precise timing subject to each year’s rainfall pattern but the herds move around the Serengeti depending on the time of year.
Serengeti Migration
Also known as the great annual wildebeest migration, the migration has no beginning or end and is an endless cycle of life. The animals migrate clockwise around the Serengeti – Mara.
Between January and February – The wildebeests give birth to some 300,000 to 400,000 calves born within 2 – 3 week period, eight and a half months after the mating season. The birthing occurs on the short-grass plains over the lower northern slopes of the Ngorongoro Crater highlands and scattered around Olduvai Gorge.
March – April: Towards the beginning of the long-rains and the end of the short dry season — around March, the short-grass plains of the southernmost Serengeti start to dry out and the wildebeest begin (or continue) their journey, heading towards the western woodlands.
May – June: As the rains set in, the wildebeests head north-west into the woodlands of Seronera towards Lake Victoria. This is when the annual rut happens, as the herds consolidate on the Serengeti’s Western Corridor. During the rut 500,000 cows mate in less than a four week period.
July – August: At this time the great wildebeest migration heads north into the Masai Mara National Reserve. On their trek the herd’s path is cut several times by rivers: in the Northern Serengeti by the Mbalangeti and the Grumeti, and in Kenya by the Mara River. While the river crossing at Grumeti River always represent an annual feast for the large crocodiles. This isn’t usually quite as spectacular as the crossing of the Mara River.
