Abalone Guest Lodge
Abalone Guest House is situated in the quaint town of Hermanus – the Land Based Whale Watching Capital of the World.
This luxurious guest lodge is ideally situated on Siever’s Point, an ocean front location midway between the town centre and the magnificent Blue Flag beaches.
Each spacious en suite room at Abalone Guest Lodge has its own private balcony looking out over the ocean or the mountains.
During whale season, between June and November, you can spot whales from the lodge itself, from the beaches or from the cliff paths. If you’d like to get a closer look, boat-based whale watching is available, although booking is essential. You can also paddle your way out to sea in a kayak for the ultimate whale watching experience.
The nearby Fernkloof Nature Reserve offers scenic hiking trails with breathtaking views of Walker Bay. Guided hikes are also available for those wanting to learn more about the fynbos, birds, animals and general history of Hermanus.
For something a little more thrilling, the nearby town of Gansbaai is well known for its shark cage diving. Hop on a boat and head out to Dyer Island and the Cape fur seal colony. It is the presence of these seals that attracts the sharks. These trips often yield more than just shark sightings, there’s a chance you’ll see whales and other marine life too.
Other activities include horse riding, wine tasting and golf.
