Ibo Island Lodge
On Ibo you can combine a tropical island holiday with a fascinating glimpse into Mozambique’s culture and history – dating back to the early 1600s. A guided tour of the island will help you gain insight into the region’s shady past of pirates, ivory and the infamous slave trade, as you wander past the beautiful catholic church and interesting old forts.
At Ibo Island lodge you get to stay in one of the magnificent mansions that are more than a century old, with walls a metre thick and high lofty ceilings. This is a stylish lodge in a relaxing location, overlooking the warm turquoise ocean.
Ibo is just one of a string of 32 tropical islands that make up the magical Quirimbas Archipelago. The surrounding waters are known to be one of the most biologically diverse marine environments on earth. No trip to the islands would be complete without a look below the ocean’s shimmering surface as you snorkel off Ibo Island’s beach – a powder-white sandspit, a short 10min boat trip away from the lodge.
Other activities worth mentioning include a chance to navigate winding channels with breathtaking scenery or island hop safely under the expert leadership of your guide.
Go on a guided excursion into the fertile mangrove forest and if lthis sounds a bit energetic, you may simply prefer to indulge in a relaxing massage, spend a lazy afternoon in the lodge’s gardens, or stretch out in the sun alongside one of the lodge’s swimming pool.
Ibo Island Lodge is situated on beautiful and remote Ibo Island, just north of the small town of Pemba in the Quirimbas Archipelago, northern Mozambique.
