The Lalibela Private Game Reserve is located between Port Elizabeth and Grahamstown in the malaria-free Eastern Cape.
Although quite small in comparison to other South African Reserves, Lalibela is home to a variety of animals including lion, elephant, rhino, buffalo, leopard, and wild dog.
Lalibela is not as famous as the neighbouring Kwandwe or Shamwari reserves but nevertheless it has become an extremely popular destination for parents with young children.
Children are kept entertained throughout the day thanks to a specialised children’s programme (geared towards kids under 8 years old) while parents take a much needed break. The program includes kid’s game drives, picnics, playgrounds, African bedtime stories and arts and crafts.
There are three lodges at Lalibela, so visitors wanting a more grown-up experience have a couple of peaceful alternatives to the family friendly Mark’s Camp. For a serene safari experience stay at Treetops; luxury safari tents are perched high on thatched platforms, and are joined by raised walkways.
