Lusenga Plain was a good place for a national park, but without sufficient support, it is now a park in name only. Poaching has reduced the game considerably, though there are still buffalo, blue and yellow backed duiker, bushbuck and reedbuck to be found within the park.
This hot and humid park was designated to protect a large open plain, reed fringed swamp and dry evergreen forest surrounded by ridges of hills. The rest of the park is covered by dense miombo woodland.
On its north-eastern side, the park is bordered by the Kalungwishi River, on which three beautiful and attractive waterfalls are found.
